A ceremony to present the July 1 Medal, the highest honor of the Party, to outstanding Communist Party of China (CPC) members was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on June 29, 2021. A total of 29 CPC members received the honor. Ai Aiguo was the only recipient from Hunan Province.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. This is the first time the medal has been awarded to CPC members who have made outstanding contributions to the Party and the people.

Ai Aiguo was born in March 1950 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1985. Ai is a welding consultant of the Hunan Valin Xiangtan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., and chairman of the board of supervisors of the Hunan Welding Association. He was a member of the 15th CPC National Congress and a deputy of the 7th National People's Congress.

Ai Aiguo is an outstanding model of craftsmanship. He has always adhered to the belief of "doing the utmost and making the best in the work". He has spent more than five decades in welding.  He has participated in major national projects for many times, and has overcome hundreds of technical difficulties in welding. As a "leader" in the field of welding in the country, Ai Aiguo devoted himself to imparting his skills and trained more than 600 welding technicians across the country. He was awarded the titles of "National Model Worker" and "National Top Ten Outstanding Workers".
