Hunan Provincial Working Committee on Children and Women Holds Plenary Meeting in Changsha

The Hunan Provincial Working Committee on Children and Women held a plenary meeting in Changsha on June 10. At the meeting, Vice Governor Zhu Zhongming emphasized that we must focus on promoting women and children’s livelihood and satisfying their diversified needs, address problems, plug loopholes, and reinforce weak links, so as to ensure that the gains of reform and development can benefit women and children in a fully and fairly way. Zhu added that these efforts will enable us to get off to a good start for the development of women and children during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

The development of women and children in Hunan Province has been steadily moving forward since the 13th Five-year Plan. The province's maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate and mortality rate of children under 5 years old have dropped to 9.32 per 100,000, 2.59‰, and 4.47‰ respectively. The number of public kindergartens have increased 143% and the completion rate for compulsory education has reached 98%. The Hunan Province Measures for the Implementation of the Anti-Domestic Violence Law of the People's Republic of China and the Regulations on the Promotion of Family Education in Hunan Province have been formulated and implemented to protect the legal rights of women and children.

Zhu Zhongming pointed out that we should have a clear political stance and intensify our ideological and action awareness of doing a good job for women and children in the new era. Zhu stressed that we must pay more attention to women and children’s needs, protect their rights and interests, and promote their development. Efforts should be made to focus on family education and family traditions to promote high-quality development of women and children undertaking. Zhu added that we must fulfill responsibilities, improve working mechanisms, innovate working methods, and synergize efforts to promote the development of women and children.

The Hunan Provincial Women and Children Development Plan (2021-2025) was reviewed at the meeting.
