Hunan started mass COVID-19 vaccination since May. It takes the province only one month to complete the first-stage goal, ahead of schedule. The total number of inoculations around the province hit 10 million and 20 million in succession on May 15 and 26. As of June 2, more than 27 million doses of vaccines have been administered.

The goal of administering first doses for 40% of the population aged more than 18 years had been achieved, one week ahead of schedule.

Beginning from June, Hunan will shift its focus to administering second doses, in order to complete the immune procedures, and build an effective immune barrier.

As planned, the administration of the second dose for those who have received first dose around the province will be completed in one month.

According to the COVID-19 vaccination guidance first version, the two-dose schedules in Hunan are as follow:
- The Vero-cell-derived inactivated COVID-19 vaccine, produced by Beijing Institute of Biological Products, Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, and Sinovac Biotech, is recommended for use in a two-dose schedule with a spacing of  3 to 8 weeks, that is 21 to 56 days;
- The vaccine (CHO cells) produced by the Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical Co. Ltd. is recommended for use in a two-dose schedule with a spacing of 4 to 8 weeks, that is 28 to 56 days; and,
- The adenovirus vector vaccine produced by CanSinoBIO is recommended for one-dose use.
Individual vaccination records have been uploaded into the Hunan Resident Health Card database. Residents can check their vaccination data, dose, and vaccine producer on their electronic health cards. Those who complete vaccination procedures will have a “gold armor” mark on their health codes.

Those who are urgently in need of receiving first dose for going abroad or epidemic prevention demands, could apply for first dose during this period.

Mass administration of first dose will be resumed in Hunan at the end of June.
