Between December 17 and 18, Hunan Provincial People’s Government held talks with the China Three Gorges Corporation, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in Beijing. Xu Dazhe, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan governor; Li Ganjie, minister of Ecology and Environment; and, Lei Mingshan, Three Gorges Corporation chairman, attended the talks.

 

Vice Governor Chen Fei and Chen Wenhao; Zhuang Guotai, deputy minister of Ecology and Environment; Wang Lin, Three Gorges Corporation president; and, Wang Qun, secretary-general of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, were also present.

Governor Xu introduced ecological environmental protection in Hunan Province, and the remediation work based on the feedback given by the central ecological environmental protection supervision team. He added, in recent years, Hunan has been implementing President Xi Jinping thought on ecological civilization construction. Ecological environmental protection has been carried out in an orderly way throughout the province. Steady progress has been made in ecological environment quality. He hopes the Ministry of Ecology and Environment would continuously support Hunan in the following aspects:

· Strengthening guidance over ecological environmental protection in Hunan;

· Deepening ministry-province cooperation in enhancing Yangtze River Economic Belt green development, major pollution issues treatment, and environment supervision; and,

· Promoting Hunan’s ecological civilization construction and environment treatment to a new stage.

 

"In recent years, ecological environment quality in Hunan has been improving. Steady progress has been seen in bettering people's living environment. This has made positive contributions to the national ecological civilization construction and environmental treatment,” Li Ganjie said. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment will spare no effort to support Hunan in pollution prevention, ecological protection restoration, and ecological environment monitoring, among others. It will enhance the coordination between Hunan economic development and ecological construction, so as to make Hunan people enjoy the achievements of ecological civilization construction.

In the Three Gorges Corporation, the two parties had in-depth discussions over innovating province-enterprise cooperation model and mechanism, and expanding cooperation contents. To be specific, the two parties will jointly promote cooperation in water environment treatment, water resources allocation project, and water pollution treatment project for the cities along the Yangtze River.

Governor Xu Dazhe said, the strategic cooperation framework agreement signed by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the Three Gorges Corporation in this July marks a new progress of cooperation between the two parties. He hoped the Three Gorges Corporation will utilize its advantages in its brand, capital, technology, and management to deepen its cooperation with Hunan in watersheds treatment and land development; water environment treatment in the cities along the Yangtze River; water conservancy infrastructure construction; and, energy and electric power guarantee, among others. He hoped that joint efforts will be made to promote high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

 

"The Three Gorges Corporation will take part in the special shoreline management project for the Yangtze River Hunan section, and the 'One Lake and Four Rivers' ecological environment integrated treatment. It will also strengthen cooperation between two parties in projects and capital to help Hunan fight the 'three tough battles' of controlling risks, reducing poverty, and tackling pollution; and, achieve high-quality development," Lei Mingshan mentioned.
