Secretary Xu, Governor Mao, Meet with Envoys from Six Countries

Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary and Hunan Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee director, and Mao Weiming, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan governor, met in Changsha with envoys from six countries to China on May 18, 2021. They are Kaiyamo, ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to China; Quesada, ambassador of the Republic of Peru to China; Myo Thant Pe, ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to China; Soto, ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica to China; Siyabonga Cwele, ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to China; and, Yao Ruihua, chargé d'affaires at the Republic of Vanuatu to China. They came to attend the 2021 Changsha International Construction Equipment Exhibition (CICEE 2021).

Secretary Xu welcomed the envoys. He noted that in recent years, Hunan province has consolidated its industrial foundation, improved its transportation system, and accelerated innovation and opening up. Remarkable achievements have been, especially in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Cluster. When President Xi Jinping visited Hunan last year, he encouraged Hunan governments at all levels to focus on building “Three Highlands or Hubs” of nationally-important advanced manufacturing industries, competitive technological innovation, and the reform and opening up of inland areas. This has become a new target for Hunan development. He noted that Hunan’s construction machinery and equipment industry is characterized by large scale, high concentration, high-level intelligent manufacturing, and a high degree of openness. It is one of the vanguard industries Hunan government has strived to develop the province into the “Three Highlands or Hubs” and to build Hunan into a manufacturing powerhouse. Xu said, “We will organize CICEE 2021 as a starting point and with advanced standards. We expect to establish a sound platform for the global construction machinery industry to strengthen cooperation, deepen friendship, and learn from each other. We hope to take this exhibition as an opportunity and the construction machinery industry as a starting point to expand all-round exchanges and conduct matchmaking events with the countries where the ambassadors are from. We could deepen cooperation and work together in industry, economy and trade, science and education, and culture and tourism.”

The envoys stated an admiration for Hunan’s developmental achievements. Hunan is a leader in: vanguard industries such as construction machinery; technological innovation; urban development; quality of life issues; and, poverty alleviation. They hoped for future exchanges and cooperation with Hunan via CICEE 2021. They expected mutual benefits and win-win results through industrial matchmaking events, cultural exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and friendship city relationships.
