Making New and Greater Contributions to the Building of a Healthy China

The Conference on High-Quality Development of Affiliated Hospitals of Central South University & Symposium for the 120th Anniversary of Xiangya Hospital was held in Changsha on October 18, 2026. Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended.

Xiangya Hospital of Central South University was founded in 1906. Attendees noted that over the past 120 years, generations of Xiangya people have been closely tied to the Chinese nation's destiny and advanced in the same direction as the people's health. They have demonstrated medical benevolence in saving lives, and cultivated a large number of high-quality medical talents, contributing to safeguarding the life and health of the people and promoting the development of the health sector. Standing at a new starting point, it is hoped that Xiangya Hospital will thoroughly study and implement President Xi Jinping's important remarks on the Healthy China Initiative and his important speech at the national meeting on health. Xiangya Hospital should always put the people's life safety and health first, establish a high-quality and efficient medical and health service system, improve the medical talent training system, and build itself into a national medical sci-tech and innovation center. It should comprehensively strengthen capabilities in medical service, medical talent training, and pharmaceutical innovation, and accelerate the building of a world-class hospital with Xiangya characteristics that satisfies the people, making new and greater contributions to the building of a Healthy China.

A free clinic campaign themed "Caring for the People, Shouldering Xiangya's Responsibility" was launched at the conference, featuring renowned Xiangya doctors and experts at home and abroad. Xiangya Hospital will organize 12 teams of renowned doctors and experts to carry out free clinics within Hunan Province, in multiple provinces and cities across China, and in Sierra Leone, Africa. They will provide specialized diagnosis and treatment and health consultations for local residents.

Also present were provincial leaders Wang Junshou, Hu Xusheng, Jiang Difei, Chen Jing, and Zhang Jian; An Shi, secretary of the CPC Central South University Committee; Li Jiancheng, president of Central South University; Leslie Hope, consul general of the U.S. Consulate General in Wuhan; representatives of the Yale-China Association; responsible officials from national ministries, commissions, and people's organizations; academicians and experts; and representatives of universities and medical institutions.
