On May 12 afternoon, local time, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa met with a 12-member medical expert team from China’s Hunan Province at the Office of the President in Harare, capital of Zimbabwe. He thanked China for its assistance to Zimbabwe during this special period and highly praised the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Zimbabwe's Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, several senior Zimbabwean government ministers, and Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun attended.

Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa warmly welcomed the medical expert team and thanked Hunan for donating anti-epidemic materials to Zimbabwe.

“I firmly believe that our medical experts and frontline medical staff will learn a lot from your experience to deal with this epidemic," said Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa, who had high hopes for the Chinese medical experts. He said that, they will bring valuable experience to Zimbabwean medical workers and provide important support for the anti-epidemic work in southern Africa. The Zimbabwean government will fully support the work of the medical expert team so that they can fully understand the epidemic situation in Zimbabwe and have in-depth exchanges with local frontline medics.

The 12 medical experts were organized by the National Health Commission and selected by the Hunan Health Commission to help with Zimbabwe's fight against the epidemic. They are from respiratory departments, infectious disease departments, and the fields of intensive medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, infection control, public health, laboratory testing, and nursing. They come from 9 Hunan units including Xiangya Hospital, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and Hunan People's Hospital. They arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe on May 11 afternoon. They will work in Zimbabwe for 14 days to help Zimbabwe fight against the epidemic, share anti-epidemic experience with their counterparts in Zimbabwe, and provide prevention and treatment training to local medics.
