Governor Mao Meets with Lao Guests

Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met in Changsha with Bounkhong Lachiamphone, Party secretary and governor of Oudomxay Province of Laos, and his entourage at noon of November 20, 2024.


Zhang Yingchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of Hunan Province, and Qu Hai, secretary general of the People's Government of Hunan Province, attended.


On November 20, Governor Mao meets with Bounkhong Lachiamphone, Party secretary and governor of Oudomxay Province of Laos.


Oudomxay Province is located in the north of Laos, bordering China and Vietnam. With an area of 15,400 square kilometers and a population of about 340,000, its economy is primarily based on agriculture, as well as farming, agricultural product processing, mineral, and hydropower development.


The meeting.


Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefly introduced the economic and social development of Hunan. He noted that Oudomxay is the 100th provincial-level region to establish a friendship partnership with Hunan. Since the official tie-up in 2020, both sides have witnessed frequent high-level visits, close economic and trade exchanges, pragmatic educational cooperation, and active mutual communications. Hunan is willing to work together with Oudomxay to implement the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Lao President Thongloun, Governor Mao said, adding that efforts should be made to deeply integrate into the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative; continue to enhance the "Golden Corridor" effect of the China-Laos Railway; and, foster deeper exchanges between governments and departments. He called for strengthening partnerships in modern agriculture, equipment manufacturing, education and training, culture and tourism, and other sectors, to make positive contributions to the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future.

Mr. Bounkhong Lachiamphone praised the achievements of the collaboration between Hunan and Oudomxay. He expected the two sides to keep intensifying exchanges and cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, tourism, culture, talent cultivation, and infrastructure construction. He warmly welcomed Hunan enterprises to invest and thrive in Oudomxay Province.
