Foreign travelers can pay for bus rides using RMB cash, transit cards, mobile payment apps, or bank cards.
Cash payments require exact change, so travelers are advised to prepare accordingly.
Transit cards can be purchased at bus company service outlets, which requires the presentation of passport. Payment can be made in RMB cash, WeChat Pay, or Alipay.
Some mobile payment apps and bus operator apps support QR-code boarding. For example, on Alipay, tap "Transport", select the city, and complete identity verification to receive a QR code for bus. Present the QR code when getting on and off the bus.
