Changde Taohuayuan Airport

Changde Taohuayuan Airport is located in the Doumuhu Community, Dingcheng District, Changde City. Originally built in 1958, it is one of the earliest airports to operate in Hunan Province. After three expansions in 1991, 1996, and 2015, it is now a 4D-class airport covering a total area of 2,300 mu (approximately 153.3 hectares), with a 2,600-meter runway, four D-class stands, and nine C-class stands. It can accommodate fully loaded medium-sized aircraft such as the A321 and B737 for takeoff and landing, meeting the demands of an annual passenger throughput of 2.2 million, 21,000 aircraft movements, and 16,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput. As of 2021, Changde Airport has successively opened 16 domestic routes connecting 20 destinations in 19 cities, including Beijing (Daxing), Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shanghai (Pudong and Hongqiao), Ningbo, Beihai, Kunming, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanning, Tianjin, Haikou, Huizhou, Zhengzhou, Sanya, Xi'an, Chongqing, and Wenzhou, with the airport's connectivity and regional influence continuing to improve.

With the management philosophy of persistently prioritizing safety, sincerely focusing on service, and wholeheartedly striving for development, Changde Airport has successfully supported events such as the performance flight of the Russian Air Force "Swifts" aerobatic team, refueling operations for nine helicopters of a certain Army Aviation unit of the Guangzhou Military Region returning in triumph from the Sichuan earthquake-stricken area, and the first batch of emergency supplies for COVID-19 prevention and control donated by patriotic overseas Chinese and social organizations from Thailand. It has established the "Chang Lai Chang Wang" (meaning always connected) service brand and achieved innovation in a dual-track service brand model combining "smart" and "traditional" approaches.

In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, under the unified leadership and scientific planning of the Group Party Committee, Changde Airport, with a high degree of political awareness and responsibility, led its employees to focus on both pandemic prevention and control, and safe production, fully addressing the major challenges of the critical period. It achieved "zero errors" in prevention and control and "zero infections" among employees, earning the honorary title of "Advanced Collective in the Fight Against COVID-19 in Hunan Province".

In recent years, with the vigorous advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, the construction of a regional modern comprehensive transportation hub in Hunan Province and Changde City, and the rapid development of various industries, people's demand for regional air transport has continued to increase. Changde Airport achieved a milestone leap in passenger throughput during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period compared to the "12th Five-Year Plan" period. In November 2019, the airport's annual passenger throughput exceeded 1 million, successfully joining the ranks of million-level and top 100 airports nationwide. In December of the same year, the Changde Airport's temporary airport at Changde Airport was smoothly opened, successfully supporting the first Bangkok-Changde-Bangkok international charter flight and making it the third international port airport in Hunan Province.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Changde Airport is positioned as the central airport for the northwestern Hunan region, which is of great significance for Changde City in building a northwestern Hunan aviation service center, an air cargo hub, and a new area integrating industry and city. To accelerate the construction of a regional modern comprehensive transportation hub and an aviation logistics center in Changde City, the construction of the aviation port was included in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" in 2021, while the adjusted budget for the airport expansion project was approved by the Hunan Development and Reform Commission.

From now on, under the leadership of the Group Party Committee, Changde Airport will focus on developing the airport as its main business, and seize the opportunity of general aviation development, with the aim to serve the socio-economic development of Changde City. On the basis of ensuring safety, it will accelerate infrastructure construction, expand consumer-oriented general aviation, further consolidate and expand flight routes, achieve the upgrading to a Class I aviation port, and actively build a "Taohuayuan" themed airport.
