Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport is located in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, a world-renowned tourist destination. It is the second international airport in Hunan Province and the only Class I aviation port in the Wuling Mountain area, playing a vital role in the development of the province's tourism industry. The airport covers an area of 247.49 hectares with a 4D airfield. It features a 2,600-meter runway and a 181,000-square-meter apron with 21 aircraft stands, 6 of which are contact stands (equipped with passenger boarding bridges). The airport is capable of handling aircraft with up to 250 seats, such as the Airbus A300 and Boeing B767. The new T2 terminal building, with an area of 46,529 square meters, can meet the operational requirements for an annual passenger throughput of 5 million, cargo and mail throughput of 19,000 tons, and 45,000 aircraft movements. To date, the airport has connected to 92 cities, including 65 domestic and 27 international and regional destinations. The domestic destinations cover over 80% of provincial capitals nationwide, while international routes reach multiple East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
The airport was completed and opened to traffic on August 18, 1994. In June 1997, the State Council of the People's Republic of China approved the establishment of the Zhangjiajie aviation port, which officially opened to foreign aircraft on November 17, 2011. It was renamed "Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport" on August 15, 2017. In 2019, it successfully became a Skytrax four-star airport, with passenger throughput exceeding 2.87 million, marking a record high. In 2021, the "Le Xiang Yong" passenger service platform and the 2233666 passenger service hotline were officially launched, continuously optimizing the airport service chain, significantly improving operational efficiency, making facilities and equipment smarter and more user-friendly, developing boutique and distinctive commercial offerings, and creating a convenient and comfortable travel environment, thereby continuously enhancing passengers' travel experience and sense of fulfillment. The airport has successively won national and provincial honors such as "Civilized Airport", "Best Tourist Airport in China", "Passenger Satisfaction Excellence Award" among national airports, "Civilized Window Unit of Hunan Province", and "Hunan Province Worker Pioneer".
