Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located in the southern part of Wulingyuan, neighbouring Suoxi Valley and Mount Tianzi Nature Reserve. It covers an area of 4300 hectares with forest coverage of 97%. The average rainfall of the national park is 1200mm to 1600mm and the average temperature is 16 centigrade year round. The forest park has 98 woody plant families which includes 517 species, over twice the total found in Europe. Half of the gymnosperm species can be found in the forest park.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was a state-run forest farm several years ago. In the early 1980s, the forest was found to be an attractive site and, with the approval of the State Council, it was established as the first national forest park in China in 1982. It is famous for its unique natural landform of sandstone forest and the spectacle of virgin forest and boasts unique hills, queer ridges and peaks, tranquil valleys, thrilling streams and abundant fauna and flora, all with a hospitable climate. There are six main scenic spots and over 90 small ones in the park which will enable the visitor to enjoy the magnificent scenery as well as having a lot of excitement and fun.

Huangshi Village and Jinbian Stream (Golden Whip Stream) are the two most attractive spots in the forest park.

A stone bridge recommended by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying is located at the Yuanjiajie Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, with a bridge walkway width of about 2 meters, a length of more than 20 meters, and an absolute height of 350 meters. It is renowned as the world's number one bridge, boasting tall, straight pines and old vines dangling nearby. The depths beneath the bridge are largely unknown. Walking on the bridge is an exhilarating experience, and the sight of the bridge cave from afar is truly breathtaking. The bridge is a gorgeous and awe-inspiring sight when surrounded by clouds and mists. It is a one-of-a-kind view in Zhangjiajie and truly a natural marvel.
