Xiangshan Park

Xiangshan Park, located in the western suburbs of Yanling County, covers an area of 11,300 mu with 10,700 mu of national forest area and 600 mu of water area. Surrounded by water on three sides, with peaks rising one higher than the other in it, Xiangshan Park has been a tourist resort since the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) and was listed as a provincial forest park in 1997.

 

There are plentiful natural and cultural landscapes, among which the most glamorous are:


Zhiqing (educated youth) Pavilion:There are records of the life of over 7,000 educated youths receiving reeducation from the poor and lower-middle peasants in Yanling County from 1960s to 1970s.


Xiangshan Mountain:The legend spreads abroad that the prince of the Dragon King went to the theatre in Xiangtan every night.

 

Also included are the Xiangshan ancient pagoda built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the Xiangshan Temple, the Wuzi Temple, the cemetery of revolutionary martyrs, the Red Army Bridge, the comfortable holiday village and the well-equipped swimming center. Lining up with Jinggang Mountain in Jiangxi, Taoyuan Cave scenic area in Yanling and the Mausoleum of Emperor Yandi in Zhuzhou, Xiangshan Park has been an excellent resort for meditation on the past, a visit to tombs of martyrs, science popularization education, entertainment and forest tourism.
