Hengyang Normal University 2026 Enrollment Guide for International Student

Hengyang Normal University is a full-time institute of higher education. It is located in Hengyang---the second largest city of Hunan Province. The history of the university can be traced back to the founding of Hunan Southern Public Normal School in 1904. In this new era, the university has grabbed developmental opportunities and made a lot of achievements. Approved by the Ministry of Education in March 1999, Hengyang Normal College and Hengyang College of Education merged into Hengyang Normal University, which absorbed Hunan No.3 Normal School in February 2001. In 2006, the university passed the evaluation on undergraduate education conducted by the Ministry of Education with 17 "A"s. In May 2018, HYNU was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to grant Master' s Degrees. In October 2018, the university was included in Hunan' s "Double First-class" application-oriented universities. It was approved to recruit undergraduate students as a "first-tier" university of Hunan Province in June, 2019.


Colleges and Majors: HYNU has 18 colleges, 51 undergraduate programs, six first-order discipline authorized to confer Master's degrees and 10 professional Master's degree authorizations. The full-time student body totals 26,000, from 31 provinces all over China. The University boasts 8 provincial-level "Double First-class" application-oriented disciplines and 20 national-level and provincial-level disciplines and research platforms, including the State-Province Joint Engineering Laboratory, UNESCO Space Technology Sub-center of International Natural and Cultural Relics, provincial-level Cooperation and Innovation Center, provincial-level key laboratories and work stations for members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.


Faculty: The University has a faculty of 1,327, of which, 130 are Professors, 400 are PhDs. More than 100 faculties among them are Council Experts for Special Allowance, winners of the National Distinguished Teacher Prizes, winners of the National Outstanding Educator Award, Lecturing Professors of Hunan "Furong Scholars" and provincial distinguished teachers. There are 182 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and experts at home and abroad, and 20 overseas distinguished Professors and experts.


International Cooperation: HYNU stresses the importance of opening education and expanding students' international horizon. Nowadays, HYNU has established partnership with 30 universities from 13 countries and regions to conduct joint degree program and students exchange programs.

2)Length of Studies

The standard duration of study for each undergraduate program is 4 years. The students are required to complete the courses in the syllabus and pass the finals and the dissertation defense. The graduation certificate and bachelor' s degree are issued to the qualified students. Students may, under particular circumstances, shorted or prolong their length of studies through application.


3) Chinese Language Proficiency Requirement

Chinese language proficiency requirement for degree courses is HSK Lever 4 (new format)with a score of 180 or above. The University runs Chinese language programs to help international students. If one doesn' t meet the Chinese language requirement for degree courses, he/she needs to take our pre-sessional Chinese courses for one semester to two academic years.

3)Training Contents

① Chinese Language Learning Program requires the students to complete the courses in the syllabus and its duration varies from one semester to two years. The University adopts a unique model of instruction which has altogether 2 levels in Chinese learning, 1 level (A level) in Fundamental, 2 level (B) in Intermediate. Students can finish 1 level each semester in half a year or in an academic year. Students will get into appropriate levels according to the results of placement test upon arrival. The university's professional and experienced teaching team ensures the most efficient teaching and learning.

② The main courses include integrated reading, listening, speaking and Chinese character writing, In addition, the school also offers a certain number of elective courses for international students, including: Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese kung fu, Tai Chi, Chinese music, Chinese dance and so on.


II. Application Requirements


Applicants must be non-Chinese citizen above 18, in good health, holding valid passport and willing to abide by China' s laws and Hengyang Normal University' s rules and regulations and to show due respect to China' s social and cultural customs. Applicants for Bachelor' s Degree Programs must have a high school diploma and good academic results.


III. Application and Admission Procedures

Application documents can be sent by post or email to the International Exchange Office, Hengyang Normal University(contact information can be found at the end of this pamphlet).


The University will review all application materials and send an admission notice and a JW202 form to the applicant by post. The applicant should take all the documents to apply X visa in the Chinese Embassy. Arrival date is clear on the "Notice of Admission".

VI. Scholarship

University Scholarship: The university provides a certain amount of scholarship to the excellent students.


Provincial Scholarship of the "One Belt And One Road" Program: Chinese Language students whose mother' s countries are included by the “One Belt And One Road” Program can apply.


Other Scholarships:Students who pass HSK Level 4 or above during the school period can get a reward of 1000 yuan or above.
