Ugandan Artist Wants to Use Woodcarving Works to Tell Changsha's Stories in Africa

Recently, CGTN reported on Jose SsengendoKampi, an African woodcarving artist who has lived in Changsha for a year. The report, titled "Ugandan Artist Pursues Woodcarving Dream in Changsha," features a video in which he showcases his African-style works carved from Chinese wood. The video has received a lot of attention and likes on overseas social media.

In Changsha, Jose SsengendoKampi enjoys time with local friends and loves Hunan cuisine. 


Jose SsengendoKampi is a top woodcarving artist from Uganda. Selected by the Ugandan government for official cultural exchanges with China, he is on a mission to reveal the beauty and vitality of Africa through his woodcarving art. 

Jose SsengendoKampi has been living in Changsha for the past year where he has found much inspiration. "Living here has not only improved my wood carving skills but also given me new artistic expressions. The people of Changsha have a great sense of humor, and communicating with them makes me happy," said the artist. He added that he and his friends are actively learning Chinese in Africa. He hopes that China and Africa will get closer, and he plans to use his woodcarving works to share his wonderful journey in Changsha to people in Africa.
