Hunan Medical Team Aids Cervical Cancer Prevention, Treatment in Sierra Leone

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) of Sierra Leone held a press conference on March 5 local time, announcing the achievements of the country's inaugural HPV testing for cervical cancer screening project. This marked a breakthrough in cervical cancer prevention and treatment in Sierra Leone.


This project was undertaken by the 25th batch of the China (Hunan) Medical Team to Sierra Leone. The completion of the project has received high recognition from the Sierra Leonean government, and also won unanimous acclaim from several international organizations, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).



On the same day, MoHS and UNFPA jointly hosted an award ceremony to commend organizations and individuals who made outstanding contributions to cervical cancer prevention in Sierra Leone. The Health Commission of Hunan Province was honored with the "Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Health Services"; project leader Dr. Chen Zhihui received the "National Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment"; and, Hunan-based Sansure Biotech Inc. was honored with the "National Award for Contributions to Public Health."
