The Information Office of the State Council held a briefing in Beijing on the fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) and the state of China-Africa economic and trade cooperation on May 21, 2025. Themed "China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization," the fourth CAETE is co-hosted by China's Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Hunan Province. It is set to take place in Changsha, the capital of central China's Hunan Province, from June 12 to 15.
China has been Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, said Tang Wenhong, assistant minister of commerce. In recent years, China and Africa has continued to make new progress in economic and trade collaboration, witnessing increased trading scale, expanded investment momentum, and enhanced partnership in emerging areas.
The expo is one of the most important events in the field of economy and trade between China and Africa this year, featuring a series of activities highlighting the 10 partnership actions for modernization to deepen China-Africa cooperation. This aims to showcase cooperation achievements, gather resources from all sides, form stronger synergy, and promote the high-quality development of China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.
Wang Junshou, vice governor of Hunan Province, introduced that CAETE has been held for three sessions, with a completion rate of the signed projects reaching 83%. The brand influence of the expo keeps expanding, becoming a shining calling card of Hunan's opening up. The fourth session has invited five African countries, namely the Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, and Nigeria as the guest countries of honor, while Hubei Province and Chongqing Municipality as the guest province (municipality) of honor. More than 12,000 participants from 44 African countries, six international organizations, and 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities have registered, along with representatives from over 2,800 enterprises, business associations, and financial institutions from China and Africa.
More than 20 economic and trade events have been scheduled to take place during the expo, focusing on the sectors of China-Africa partnership in infrastructure, textiles and garments, and green minerals, as well as the Dialogue of Chinese and African Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Dialogue of Chinese and African CEOs. Besides, the China-Africa cultural and tourism exhibition, traditional medicine matchmaking, and China-Africa film week will also be launched.
