The 2024 China Dark Tea Conference Tea Ancestor Festival and the sixth Hunan (Yiyang) Anhua Dark Tea Cultural Festival opened at the Tianxia Dark Tea Theater in Anhua County on September 28. Zhang Yingchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of Hunan Province, announced the start of the festival. Hu Xusheng, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, and Xiao Bailing, vice chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee, participated.
The year 2024 marked the opening of the first China Dark Tea Conference, which featured five major events: the opening ceremony, a conference on the development of new quality productive forces in the dark tea industry, dark tea cultural research results announcement, fields visits to observe Anhua tea-culture industry, and various business activities.
The China Tea Marketing Association made public the 2024 dark tea major producing areas, key dark tea enterprises, dark tea-related tea making masters and experts, selection results of "China's best dark tea" products and packages. This aimed to promote industrial innovation and upgrading, and boost coordinated development of the entire industrial chain.
The China Tea Marketing Association worked with local governments of six dark tea major producing areas in Hubei's Xianning, Hunan's Yiyang, Sichuan's Ya'an, Guangxi's Wuzhou, Yunnan's Lincang, and Shannxi's Xianyang to establish a cooperative mechanism, jointly promoting a new stage of high-quality development of dark tea industry. The association also joined hands with six dark tea producing counties of Hubei's Chibi county-level city, Hunan's Anhua County, Sichuan's Yucheng District, Guangxi's Cangwu County, Yunnan's Menghai County, and Shannxi's Jingyang County as well as dark tea firms to release a Anhua Declaration on China Dark Tea, specifying the development direction and objectives of the dark tea industry.
In recent years, Yiyang City has constantly promoted the maintenance and cultivation of Anhua dark tea brand, and advanced the integration of tea, tourism, culture, sports, and wellness. The area of tea gardens across the city remains stable at 500,000 mu (about 33,333 ha.), and the comprehensive output value of the dark tea industry has exceeded 26 billion CNY, ranking first in Hunan and second nationwide. Anhua has been ranked among China's top 100 tea counties for several years.
