To promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries, and to strengthen friendly interactions between young people in China and abroad, the Confucius Institute at the University of Montenegro "Chinese Bridge" Summer Camp was held in Changsha recently. The event was organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education and was undertaken by the Changsha University of Science and Technology (CSUST).

During the 10-day summer camp, 13 young participants from the University of Montenegro embarked on a journey of discovery in Changsha. Guided by CSUST's "Cultural Ferryman" Volunteer Service Team, the participants learned about the traditional Chinese medical practices of "observation, smell, enquiry, and examination" at the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, gaining insights into the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. The group also explored the Hunan Museum and Yuelu Academy, where they traced the cultural heritage of Hunan with their footsteps. These visits allowed them to experience the province's profound history and culture. In addition, the participants visited Zoomlion, one of China's major construction machinery manufacturers, where they got an up-close look at the strengths of "Intelligent Manufacturing in China" and the vibrant technological development in Hunan.

During the summer camp, CSUST elaborately designed a variety of modules, including Chinese culture classes and activities to experience Hunan's local customs. Special courses such as "Studying at CSUST" and "Eating in Changsha" were also introduced to enrich the program. Participants also engaged in Tai Chi lessons, explored the culture of Chinese characters, and practiced calligraphy, immersing themselves in the rich history and unique allure of Chinese culture.

"The 'Chinese Bridge' summer camp serves as an important bridge for foreign youths to understand China and forge friendships with their Chinese peers," said Gan Haiying, director of the Department of Cooperation and Exchange at CSUST. He added that the summer camp offered Montenegrin youths a journey to experience Hunan culture, perceive Chinese civilization, and enhance exchanges with Chinese youths. Looking ahead, the university will continue to expand its international exchange platforms and focus on cultivating talented individuals with a global perspective.
