Governor Mao Meets Tanzania's Zanzibar President

Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, met with Hussein Ali Mwinyi, president of Tanzania's Zanzibar, and his entourage in Changsha at noon of June 30, 2023. The guests came to attend the Third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE).


Hu Xusheng, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, and Qu Hai, secretary general of the provincial government, attended.

Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefed them on the economic and social development of Hunan Province. He noted that Tanzania is an old friend of Hunan, and both sides have fruitful and promising cooperation in economic and trade, agriculture, medical care, and education sectors. In 2022, the import and export volume between Hunan and Tanzania was 2.13 billion yuan, up 127.7% year on year. Between January and April this year, the foreign trade volume reached 691 million yuan, an increase of 103% yearly. Hunan will take CAETE as a platform to continue to promote all-round communication and collaboration between Hunan and Tanzania; actively integrate into the high-quality "Belt and Road" cooperation; and, contribute Hunan's strength to deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Tanzania, he added.


President Mwinyi spoke highly of the remarkable results of the previous two CAETE sessions. Tanzania will always be committed to promoting the traditional friendship between Tanzania and China, he said, adding that it will take the third CAETE as a new starting point to promote new progress in trade and investment, agriculture, culture, health care, and other areas.
