Founded in 1898, Messer is the largest family-run industrial gas specialist in the world. The group jointly established the Hunan Xianggang Messer Gas Products Co., Ltd. in Hunan, with sales of 1.4 billion yuan in 2021.

Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefed them on the economic and social development of Hunan Province. He introduced that Hunan is located in central China, with superior geographical conditions, solid industrial foundation, advanced science, technology, and education, and continuously improved business environment. Facing precious development opportunities, the province is now striving to develop itself into a hub of advanced manufacturing industry of national importance, a hub of technological innovation with core competitiveness, and a hub of reform and opening up in inland regions, in accordance with the grand blueprint drawn by President Xi Jinping, he said, adding that Germany is Hunan's largest trading partner in the EU. In the first half of this year, Hunan's total import and export volume to Germany exceeded 7.5 billion yuan, and the cooperation between the two sides has become increasingly frequent. He noted that Hunan and Messer share sound collaboration foundation, hoping that the group will pay more attention to advancement, safety, and environmental protection; deepen comprehensive partnership between the two parties in the field of industrial gases; and, jointly develop broader domestic and foreign markets. Hunan will further optimize the business environment and fully support the development of Messer Group in Hunan.
Dr. Weiner Hickel remarked that Hunan has a strong development momentum and huge economic potential. The industries of the two sides are highly complementary and there is broad space for cooperation. Messer Group is willing to give full play to its advantages in technology, talents, and market, expand its investment layout in Hunan, and further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of industrial gas use and comprehensive utilization of hydrogen energy.
