Shen Yueyue, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), led an NPC Standing Committee inspection team to Hunan Province between July 15 and 18, 2022. They carried out examinations of enforcement of the Yangtze River Protection Law in Hunan and then attended the law enforcement inspection report meeting held in Changsha.

Zhang Qingwei, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, and Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, accompanied them on the inspection tours and attended the meeting. Zhu Guoxian, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, participated in the relevant activities.

During their stay in Hunan, Shen and her entourage went to Changsha, Zhuzhou, Changde, and Yueyang cities successively to inspect law enforcement in the Hunan section of the Yangtze River banks and the West Dongting Lake Wetland. They learned in detail about judicial protection of the Yangtze River Basin, implementation of the fishing ban in the river, riverside management and control, sand mining management, and ecological restoration. They also held a symposium with deputies to the five-level people's congresses and the grass-roots law enforcement officers, to listen to their opinions and suggestions on the implementation of the Yangtze River Protection Law.

Vice Chairwoman Shen remarked that Hunan has thoroughly implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law; regarded the implementation of the Yangtze River Protection Law as an important political task; insisted on high-level promotion; and, achieved positive results in various work.

Secretary Zhang noted that Hunan will firmly and consciously practise Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization; make good use of the results of the law enforcement inspections; continue to deepen law-based governance; pursues green development, with priority given to the eco-environment; and, shoulder new responsibilities in promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Governor Mao said that Hunan will thoroughly put forward the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important instructions on the development strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt to strengthen environmental protection rather than seeking rapid growth at the cost of the environment; implement the Yangtze River Protection Law; do well in rectifying the problems assigned by the central government; and, protect the Yangtze River in accordance with the law.

Li Jinbin, deputy director of the NPC Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee; Dou Shuhua, a member of the NPC Standing Committee and vice chairman of the NPC Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee; Wang Yi, a member of the NPC Standing Committee and a member of the NPC Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee; Shen Yan, a member of the NPC Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee; and, NPC deputies Zhuo Changli, Yang Rong, and Xu Yunbo, joined the inspection tours.

Provincial leaders Wu Guiying, Xie Weijiang, Liu Lianyu, Chen Wenhao, and Li Jianzhong; Tian Liwen, president of the Hunan Provincial Higher People's Court; and, Ye Xiaoying, procurator general of the Hunan Provincial People's Procuratorate, accompanied the inspection tours or attended relevant activities.
