On January 24, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Exhibition for the New Year of Horse opened at the MICA Art Museum in Changsha. Centered on the Year of the Horse and folk art, the exhibition showcases over 600 representative intangible cultural heritage works from more than ten provinces including Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Hunan.

The exhibition features over 20 folk artisans, including three national-level inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. It exhibits woodblock New Year paintings, clay sculptures, shadow puppets, and other crafts across ten thematic sections, systematically presenting the symbolic significance of the horse in Chinese folk art and its cultural connections to festive celebrations and seasonal customs.

The exhibition will last till May 24. Over the four-month period, the MICA Art Museum will bring in master artisans to lead workshops in intangible cultural heritage skills like paper-cutting, rubbing, lacquerware, and gourd painting. Through ongoing public engagement, these activities aim to deeply integrate traditional crafts into contemporary living spaces.
