The 8th Hunan Art Festival will kick off in Changsha on November 8, 2024, according to a press conference held on October 30. Six major activities will be held to create new spaces for artistic interaction and new scenes for cultural and tourism consumption, allowing people to enjoy the joy of art.
The art festival is hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Changsha Municipal People's Government, the Hengyang Municipal People's Government, and the Yueyang Municipal People's Government.
At the press conference, Zhou Zhiyong, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, noted that the six major events include an opening ceremony; professional stage art activities; mass cultural activities; exhibitions on fine arts, calligraphy, and photography works; an exhibition on cultural creative products; and, a closing ceremony and an award ceremony.
Themed "A Feast of Art, People's Festival", the opening ceremony will take place at the Meixi Lake International Culture and Arts Center in Changsha City on November 8. An exhibition on Hunan's cultural creative products will be held simultaneously inside and around the center, displaying new creations and award-winning works created in recent years. Six exhibition areas will be set up under the themes of "New Business Formats, New Technologies, New Models, and New Driving Forces".
Five professional stage art activities include a showcase of newly-created dramas; a showcase of newly-created playlets and sketches; a showcase of a revival showcase of classic plays; a showcase of outstanding plays from Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi; and, an exhibition on the achievements of the campaign called "Opera on Campus".
The showcase of newly-created dramas will be held from November 8 to 28 at the Meixi Lake International Culture and Arts Center, Hunan Grand Theater, Hunan Opera Performance Center, Changsha Experimental Theater, Jinyang Culture and Arts Center, Ouyang Yuqian Culture and Arts Center, and other theaters. Teachers and students from 60 schools will be invited to watch 20 newly-created dramas.
Additionally, the exhibitions on fine arts, calligraphy, and photography works are underway at the Yueyang Art Museum and the Yueyang Museum from September 27 to November 17.
The closing ceremony and the award ceremony will be held at the Hunan Grand Theater on November 28, highlighting outstanding excerpts from plays and programmes during the festival. The award-winners will be announced on site.
