The Hunan Provincial Center for Water Resources Research and Development Cooperation (Secretariat of the ASEM Water Resources Research and Development Center) has successfully passed the review by the Secretariat of the China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Network and has officially become a member institute of the SSC Network, said the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province on November 26, 2025.
The China SSC Network, jointly supported by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and China's Ministry of Commerce, is dedicated to promoting knowledge sharing, technological exchange, and capacity building among developing countries. It serves as a key platform for China's engagement in South-South and tripartite cooperation. The Hunan Provincial Center for Water Resources Research and Development Cooperation, operating within the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), has sustained policy dialogue, technical demonstration, capacity building, and scientific research collaboration with 53 member institutions. It has accumulated extensive international cooperation experience in such areas as watershed management, water environment protection, and water disaster prevention and control, aligning closely with the core focus of the China SSC Network.
Upon joining the network, the Hunan Provincial Center for Water Resources Research and Development Cooperation will leverage the China SSC Network's global platform to actively advance joint research, technical demonstrations, and capacity-building initiatives between Hunan and developing countries. These efforts will focus on such areas as the Dongting Lake governance, the Dongjiang Lake ecological conservation, sponge city construction, and intelligent water management.
