As the only ASEAN-oriented freight assembly center in Hunan Province, Huaihua has been accelerating its pace in building its international land port. As of November 2, the port has handled 1,002 freight train trips this year, reaching the 1,000-trip milestone nearly two months earlier than the previous year. The cargo structure has improved notably, with the proportion of high-value-added products rising continuously.

According to the Huaihua International Land Port Development Company, the port is operating 196 domestic and international freight routes, covering 69 countries and regions, and 216 ports and stations around the globe. Seven major international logistics channels operate regularly, connecting China with Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

During the early stage of operation, the Huaihua International Land Port mainly relied on bulk resource products such as ores with relatively low value. Industrial structure upgrading and deep integration into the international markets have resulted in continuous decrease in the proportion of the traditional low-value products at the port, dropping from 55% in 2023 to 16% in 2025. In contrast, high-value products such as nickel matte, new energy vehicles, and photovoltaic modules are accounting for a growing share.

Leveraging the land port, local businesses are accelerating their integration into the global market. Industrial clusters such as suitcases and bags, bamboo and wood products, and agricultural product processing, develop rapidly. Among them, the export of suitcases and bags amounted to 1,190 containers, marking a year-on-year increase of 82%; while the export of bamboo and wooden products reached 364 containers, up 56%.

The Huaihua International Land Port is vigorously enhancing cold-chain transportation, with dedicated cold-chain freight trains for specific goods recording significant growth. So far, a total of 3,038 containers of cold-chain fruits and vegetables have been shipped, and the Hunan-Yunnan-Lancang-Mekong cold-chain freight route operates regularly. In the next phase, Huaihua will focus on expanding cold-chain freight service for products like dragon fruit, durian, and longan, aiming to establish a cold-chain product distribution center in southwestern China.
