A "Foreign Experts' Visit to Yongzhou, Hunan" event was held in Jiangyong County on October 30. Foreign experts based in Hunan gathered at the Goulan Yao Village to experience firsthand the unique charm of Jiangyong Nvshu women's writing and culture traditions, a national intangible cultural heritage item, and to appreciate the cultural heritage and developmental vitality of the Jiangyong area.
The first stop of the event was the Nvshu Ecological Experience Hall, where experts used an electronic commentary system to gain a systematic understanding of the origins and development history of Jiangyong Nvshu traditions. They engaged in in-depth discussions on exploring the cultural essence of Nvshu and pathways for its creative transformation. During the writing experience session, a practitioner who has inherited the Nvshu traditions demonstrated brush-holding techniques and the fundamentals of basic strokes. Foreign experts enthusiastically picked up brushes and began copying simple Nvshu characters.
"Jiangyong's cuisine left me with unforgettable memories, and its Nvshu culture truly astonished me," an American expert stated frankly, adding that the stories behind Nvshu are fascinating and hold deep meaning. The visit offered him an opportunity to write Nvshu characters, which was a rare cultural experience.
As the event drew to a close, the vibrant Yao-style mud-washing celebrations commenced. Authentic Yao folk songs and dances unfolded in succession, and foreign experts enthusiastically joined the bamboo pole dance, holding hands with local villagers while jumping to the rhythm.
Before exploring the Goulan Yao Village, the experts visited the Hunan University of Science and Engineering, the Liu Zongyuan Memorial Hall, the Qiyang Wuxi Cliff Inscriptions Digital Museum, the Yongzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the "Yong Lian Hui"-Yongzhou Industrial Pavilion. They subsequently convened a symposium to offer suggestions and share achievements on the theme of "Science and Technology Empowering Industrial Development in Yongzhou."
The organizer stated that the activity holds positive significance in fostering a favorable development environment for Hunan talents, fostering a stronger sense of cultural connection and belonging among the foreign experts, establishing communication channels between Chinese and international experts, and supporting Hunan's efforts to build an international hub for innovative talents.
