The put-into-operation ceremony of the Ningxia-Hunan ±800 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) direct current transmission project was held simultaneously in Hunan Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on August 20, 2025.
Li Yifei, secretary of the CPC Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regional Committee, and Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended the ceremony. Zhang Yupu, deputy secretary of the CPC Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regional Committee and chairperson of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region; Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province; and, Zhang Zhigang, president of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and secretary of its CPC Leadership Group, delivered speeches. Pang Xiaogang, SGCC general manger and deputy secretary of its CPC Leadership Group, was present.

The ±800 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) direct current transmission project starts in Zhongwei City of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, extends through Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, and Hubei provinces and municipality, and ends at Hengyang City of Hunan Province. The total length of the transmission line reaches 1,616 kilometers, with a total investment of 28.1 billion CNY. More than 70% of the project's installed capacity is from new energy sources, with a rated capacity of eight million kilowatts and an annual power transmission volume of 40 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for about one-sixth of Hunan's annual electricity consumption.
