On August 9, the 2nd China (Chenzhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Development Conference opened in Chenzhou, with the theme of "Embracing the Future in Chenzhou, a Medicine Capital for a Millennium." Over 200 experts, scholars, and corporate representatives from the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from across the country attended the event, jointly contributing ideas for the high-quality development of Chenzhou's TCM industry.

Ten projects in Chenzhou's biopharmaceutical industry chain were collectively signed, covering four major areas: cultivation base construction, refining and deep processing, technology R&D, and market circulation. Participants also delivered keynote speeches from four perspectives: health consumption, invigorating agriculture by applying science and technology, integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and industrial innovation, pooling industry expertise and deepening full-chain collaboration. These efforts aimed to propel Chenzhou's leapfrog development from a "city rich in medicinal resources" into a "powerhouse of the TCM industry," injecting green momentum into high-quality development.

Chenzhou is an important inheritor of the culture of the ancient sage-Emperor Shennong, renowned since ancient times for a legend about Su Dan, a man of unmatched medical skill and noble character, as well as the tradition of Anren Ganfenshe, listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. In recent years, Chenzhou has advanced the high-quality development of its TCM industry through multiple approaches, from development philosophies to policy innovation, from standardized production to industrial chain extension, and from technological empowerment to market revitalization. The city has attracted leading enterprises to set up branches, established industry-academia-research platforms in collaboration with the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, and commercialized 27 scientific achievements over the past three years.

Currently, the cultivation area of Chinese medicinal herbs in Chenzhou spans 680,000 mu (about 45,333 hectares), with eight provincial-level bases for genuine regional medicinal herbs including Polygonatum sibiricum, Polygonatum odoratum, and Siraitia grosvenorii. The city's annual output reaches 380,000 tonnes in this regard, and its comprehensive output value exceeds 12 billion CNY.
