On July 24, the "China (Huaihua) — Laos (Vientiane)" Donated Goods Departure Ceremony was held in the customs supervision area of the Huaihua International Land Port. The event was led by the Society Work Department of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee, with participation of relevant officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee (Huaihua Municipal Overseas Chinese Affairs Office) and the Huaihua Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, as well as international volunteers from the Huaihua Volunteer Association, philanthropists, representatives of charitable enterprises, and youth representatives promoting the Lei Feng Spirit.
Last November, international volunteers from the Huaihua Volunteer Association visited a village primary school in Muang Fuang County in Vientiane Province, Laos, to carry out voluntary services. They were deeply moved by the teachers' and students' unwavering passion for knowledge and hopes for the future, despite the scarcity of resources. Upon returning to China, they launched a charity project. In April this year, the volunteers relaunched the project, and within a short period of time, they raised over 130,000 CNY worth of supplies, donated by 1,238 kind-hearted individuals. The supplies included electric fans, student desks, portable blackboards, computers, printers, file cabinets, and classroom lecterns.
A spokesperson for the Huaihua Volunteer Association explained that the association has formulated a long-term assistance program, comprised of "two five-year plans." The association hopes to improve the teaching environment at the village primary school through material assistance. Additionally, they plan to organize volunteers annually to travel to Laos for educational and cultural exchanges. The association will actively seek opportunities for multi-party cooperation to establish a sustainable assistance mechanism, expecting more compassionate individuals to join the international voluntary service.
