Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met in Changsha with Jose Julio Gomez Beato, ambassador of the Dominican Republic to China, and his delegation on the morning of April 22, 2025.
Vice Governor Cao Zhiqiang and Secretary General Qu Hai attended.
On April 22, Governor Mao meets with Dominican Republic's Ambassador to China Jose Julio Gomez Beato.
The Dominican Republic is a large country in both Central America and the Caribbean, and an important economy in Latin America. In May 2018, China and the Dominican Republic formally established diplomatic relations, thus beginning a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations. In January 2021, Hunan and Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, knotted a friendly province-city partnership, marking the first pair of province-city partners of the two countries.
Governor Mao welcomed the guests. He noted that Ambassador Jose Julio Gomez Beato's decision to visit Hunan province as his first destination after assuming his post in China clearly demonstrated the profound friendship between the two sides. Spanning from the Xiangjiang River banks to the Caribbean coast, Hunan and the Dominican Republic have embraced frequent high-level visits, close friendship-city relations, and productive agricultural cooperation in recent years. Hunan's hybrid rice, cucumbers, and other fruits and vegetables, as well as harvester tractors and other agricultural equipment have thrived in the Dominican Republic's fields.
Governor Mao expected the two sides to work together to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries. Both sides may further enhance people-to-people exchanges and deepen pragmatic cooperation in such fields as modern agriculture, commercial distribution, and infrastructure construction, injecting new vitality to advancing the relationship between China and the Dominican Republic to a new level.
The meeting.
Ambassador Jose Julio Gomez Beato remarked that the Dominican Republic and Hunan are good friends for common development and good partners for win-win collaboration. The Dominican Republic will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, actively integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative. We will further strengthen cooperation with Hunan in agriculture, economy and trade, culture and tourism, education, and other areas, advancing friendly exchanges between the Dominican Republic and China to achieve more fruitful results, he added.
