Hunan to See 26 Percent Rise in Cross-border Trips During Qingming Festival Holiday

Hunan's ports of entry are expected to handle 16,000 entry-exit trips and over 100 cross-border passenger flights during the Qingming Festival holiday from April 4 to 6, up 26% and 17% year on year, respectively, according to data from the Hunan General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection on April 1.

During the three-day holiday, Changsha airport will launch international passenger flight services to ten cities in nine countries, including London of the UK; Nairobi of Kenya; Bangkok and Chiang Mai of Thailand; Seoul of South Korea; Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia; Tokyo of Japan; Phnom Penh of Cambodia; Vientiane of Laos; and, Singapore. The airport is expected to handle over 9,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips and more than 60 cross-border flights, marking year-on-year increases of 18% and 9%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Daily peak hours for cross-border passenger traffic are anticipated between 19:00 and 1:00 the following day. The peak of passenger flow is projected to be seen on April 4, with over 4,000 passenger trips.

Zhangjiajie airport will open international passenger flights to ten cities in five countries, including Bangkok of Thailand; Jakarta of Indonesia; Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia; Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kota Kinabalu of Malaysia; and, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, and Cheongju of South Korea. The airport is expected to handle over 7,000 entry-exit trips and 40 cross-border flights, representing year-on-year increases of 37% and 33%, respectively. Daily peak passenger flow is projected to occur between 12:00–15:00 and 18:00–22:00.

"With the gradual implementation of 12 measures to boost inbound tourism in Hunan, passenger traffic at the ports may hit new highs," stated an official from the Hunan General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection. In the first quarter of this year, the province's ports of entry handled 343,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips, a 13% year-on-year increase.
