In recent days, the South Railway Station, Wuyi Square Station, and Wenchangge Station of Changsha Metro have been decorated with Spring Festival couplets, adding a strong festive atmosphere.
2025 marks the first year of Chinese Spring Festival being celebrated as a world intangible cultural heritage. On this occasion, the Changsha Metro has joined hands with the metro media operator, the Bank of Hunan, and the Hunan Calligraphers Association to initiate a special Spring Festival couplet writing and exhibition activity.
This is the ninth year that Changsha Metro has held its annual "Calligraphers Presenting Spring Festival Couplets" event. Unlike previous years, a number of international students were invited to participate in this session, trying their hand at writing the Spring Festival couplets together with other calligraphers.
International students from 15 countries, including Spain, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Liberia, who are studying in the universities in Changsha and Wuhan, joined in the activity. These foreign students wielded Chinese writing brushes to write in ink, expressing their own understanding of Chinese New Year and Chinese culture from their distinctive perspectives.
The international students ignited creativity and enthusiasm, writing the Chinese "福 (fu)" character in various forms and expanding the connotations of the Spring Festival couplets. Their New Year wishes will act as a bridge to link different cultures, spreading warmth and hope, extending care and good wishes to people of different countries.
Many passengers have been attracted by these international-style Spring Festival couplets, taking photos to mark this special festive ceremony and cultural experience.
Next, Changsha will invite ten domestic cities such as Beijing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Qingdao, Wuxi, Xuzhou, Nanchang, and Changchun to jointly initiate a nationwide metro media exhibition of "Spring Festival Couplets by International Students", marking an international-style Chinese New Year.
The special activities of the "2025 Calligraphers Presenting the Spring Festival Couplets" event are scheduled be launched at the Wenchangge Station on the Changsha Metro Line 6 on January 16. People can participate in fun activities at the station, and receive the Spring Festival couplets written by calligraphers and international students on the site.
