A winter fire dance festival was launched at the Tongguan Kiln Ancient Town China-chic Paradise on December 4, and will last until January 1, 2025, the New Year's Day. During this period, nine fire-related shows will be staged in turn, including huohu (fire pot) performance in the air; fire sword performance; Tanhua dance; fire-breathing acrobatics; fiery phoenix flying in the sky; datiehua, or the molten iron fireworks show; bonfire party; fireworks displays; and, kiln fire show.
The Tanhua dance is an art form that demands perfect coordination and close communication, as it is performed by a duo. The dancers light up pine and chestnut bark as fuel, and place them within two small cages woven from iron wire. These cages, connected by a rope, are tied to the ends of a long bamboo stick. By swinging the stick, the duo creates otherworldly sparks that almost look like something created by futuristic technology.
