InnoTrans, a biennial leading international trade fair for transport technology, opened in Berlin, Germany, on September 24, 2024.

"Emerald", an upgraded smart metrobus independently developed by the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co., Ltd., made its debut at the fair.

With a stylish peacock motif on its flank, this three-wagon metrobus has become a spotlight at the fair. "It is an artwork with oriental beauty in the appearance and interior design. It is amazing," said a French visitor. He was deeply impressed by this smart metrobus, and looked forward to its early operation in Europe.

The smart metrobus 2.0 has adopted a number of state-of-the-art technologies. In addition to the core technology of automated control on a virtual track, the bus can carry out automated driving on urban roads using intelligent driving and other cutting-edge technologies.

"'Smart' refers not only to the smart vehicle, but also to the smart system process through the full life cycle from design to operation and maintenance," said a chief engineer of CRRC Intelligent Transportation Technology Co., Ltd. The upgraded metrobus can be operated intelligently, drawing on big data for guidance. Moreover, an intelligent synergetic management platform has been established, ensuring passenger safety and helping lower operation costs.

In terms of environmental-friendliness and energy-savings, the smart metrobus 2.0 has been upgraded compared with its predecessors. Its streamlined head reduces air resistance, while the lightweight design has cut the weight by 36.4% and raised the traction and energy-saving effects by over 20%. Moreover, various types of energy supply are available, including lithium battery, super-capacitor, hydrogen energy, and overhead power lines, which can satisfy different demands in different scenarios.

Debuting in the domestic market in 2017, the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute's smart metrobuses have been running on nine lines in China, and have also been exported to the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia.
