The GAC AION Changsha plant is one of the ten major industrial projects in Hunan Province this year. It was registered at the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone in October 2023 and then started construction. With a fixed investment of more than 4 billion yuan in the first phase, it was transformed and upgraded on the basis of taking over the original GAC Mitsubishi fossil-fueled vehicle production line.
Upon official production, the plant plans for mass production of 9,000 new energy vehicles in the first month. The current main production model is AION S, and more new models will be introduced soon. After reaching full production in 2025, the plant is expected to create an output value of more than 20 billion yuan, helping to build a mega automobile production base in the central regions of China.
