The Zero-Carbon Energy Experience Hall, Orange Isle Scenic Area, Changsha was inaugurated on August 14. Carbon management of the scenic area has begun.
The Hunan delegation to the Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress held its fourth plenary meeting on March 7 this year. In response to questions from Chinese and foreign journalists at the meeting, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province said that, the Orange Isle will be built into a "zero-carbon isle", showing the achievements of Hunan's new power system construction in the new era. Red resources and the green and low-carbon concept will be closely integrated, contributing Hunan's strength to the Beautiful China construction.
Building a "zero-carbon isle" means that the 91.64-hectare Orange Isle will be developed into China's first zero-carbon demonstration river isle. In addition, a zero-carbon energy experience hall will also be set up on the isle.
As a pioneering project, the experience hall itself has achieved low carbon emissions. The hall is equipped with 3 kilowatts of photovoltaic tiles and 2.4 kilowatts of photovoltaic curtain walls. Around the hall, there are 4.87 kilowatts of photovoltaic walking trails, as well as micro power generation devices such as exercise bikes and wind turbine trees. The annual power generation is expected to reach 21,000 KWH, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration capacity of 12.78 mu (0.85 hectares) of forests for a year.
A person in charge of the experience hall said that, the Orange Isle will cut carbon emissions by means of electricity, management, and natural carbon sequestration to accomplish 87% of its zero carbon goal. The remaining 13% needs effective coordination by transportation, construction, ecology, and other departments on the isle. In the near future, the goal of creating a "zero-carbon isle" will come true.
