The 21st Seoul International Dance Competition (SIDC) recently came to an end at the Mapo Art Center in Seoul, South Korea. Hailing from Liuyang, Xu Yujiao won the gold award in the traditional ethnic dance category.
Organized by UNESCO, the SIDC is one of the high-level dance competitions that draw the attention of dance circles around the world. Participants should go through three rounds of selection, namely, video screening, offline semi-finals, and finals. Each category hands out three honors: gold, silver, and bronze.

Xu Yujiao, 12 years old, has been learning dance for several years. Her award-winning solo dance, named "Fei Niao Ji", a kind of hair bun in the shape of a flying bird, is a classical dance work choreographed and directed by Huang Jiayuan. The work is inspired by murals of the Northern Dynasties (386-581). Its name coveys a punning artistic conception as it not only depicts a bird-shaped hair bun the maids wear, but also reveals the free and easy social environment and splendid history and culture of the Northern Dynasties through the image of a "flying bird".
In this July, a total of 9 people from Liuyang City were selected into the 2024 National Training Camp for China's Top Dancer Growth Plan, which is rare in the country. In particular, 8 children's group dancers selected by the Liuyang Dancers Association were included in the lists of the 2024 National Training Camp for Top Dancers and the National Works Exhibition (Group Dance), which were announced by the China Dancers Association.
