Hunan exported 16.62 billion yuan of construction machinery in the first half of 2024, an increase of 24.6% over the same period last year, according to the Changsha Customs Authority. Of the total, Changsha's exports of construction machinery grew 30.3% year on year to 15.35 billion yuan, accounting for 92.4% of the province's total.
The exports to the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative accounted for more than 60% of the total, and the exports to the EU grew rapidly. From January to June this year, Hunan exported 2.51 billion yuan of construction machinery to 27 countries of the EU (excluding the United Kingdom), surging by 137.1% and accounting for 15.1% of the total. Meanwhile, Hunan's exports of construction machinery to the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 11 billion yuan, up 13.2%. The exports to other RCEP member countries were 2.51 billion yuan, down 11.8%. The exports to Africa stood at 1.05 billion yuan, up 38.1%.
Private enterprises, state-owned enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises have played an active role. In the first half of the year, construction machinery exports by Hunan's private enterprises expanded 26.7% year on year to 10.28 billion yuan, taking up 61.9% of the province's total. The exports by foreign-invested enterprises were 6.26 billion yuan, up 21.3%, accounting for 37.7%. The exports by state-owned enterprises grew 25% to 80.29 million yuan. Special motor vehicles, bulldozers, and forklifts were major exported products.
China-Europe (Changsha) freight train service has been deeply integrated into the construction machinery industry. In the January-June period, Changsha's construction machinery exports constituted more than 90% of the province's total. During the period, a total of 373 China-Europe freight trains departed from Changsha, a year-on-year increase of 44.6%. The value of construction machinery exported via rail transport grew by 46.3%. Additionally, China-Europe freight trains dedicated to the transportation of construction machinery products have been launched. Currently, there are 14 regular routes of the China-Europe (Changsha) freight trains, linking Changsha with nearly 30 countries and regions in Eurasia.
