Governor Mao welcomed the guests and thanked Chairman Hiroshi Moriyama for his long-term contributions to Hunan-Japan friendly exchanges. He noted that Hunan and Japan enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges, frequent people-to-people communication, close economic and trade exchanges, and broad prospects for cooperation. Since Changsha and Kagoshima knotted friendship city ties in 1982, Hunan and Japan have established a total of 12 pairs of friendship city relations. He expected the two sides to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, giving full play to the platform role of friendship city ties. Both sides can further industrial collaboration in such fields as equipment manufacturing, electronic information, biomedicine, and agricultural machinery; foster closer partnerships in cultural and tourism exchanges; enhance exchanges in modern agricultural technology; and, strengthen exchanges among the youth. We should work together to bring real benefits to our two peoples and enhance mutual understanding, thereby making new contributions to building a China-Japan relationship that meets the demands of the new era, he added.
