The 2024 China (Zhangjiajie) International New Acrobatic Theatre Festival will take place in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province from August 23 to 27. The event is under the guidance of the China Acrobats Association, the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Hunan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and co-hosted by the Hunan Performance Group and the Zhangjiajie Municipal People's Government. The activity is China's first original acrobatics project with a new business form. It features creative, fashionable, and international artistic expressions.
Three major events will be arranged during the festival, including new acrobatic performances, new acrobatic development forums, and new acrobatic creative workshops. In addition, an acrobatics-themed carnival featuring a variety of artistic experience activities will be held.
Twenty-five art troupes from 17 countries such as Canada, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and China (including Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Ji'nan) will stage more than 100 new acrobatic performances with different types and themes. The festival will provide the audiences with an immersive experience of new acrobatics by presenting African acrobatic show "zaouli dance", which went viral on the Internet due to its unique and difficult steps; a parade of puppets on stilts; and, street art.
Taking new acrobatics as a carrier, the festival incorporates new artistic performance forms. It is part of the Croisements Festival events, which are specially designed to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. The festival will feature outstanding new acrobatic shows from around the world and serve as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue, in a bid to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, tell China's stories effectively, and make China's voice heard.
