Changsha's foreign trade scale has been steadily increasing month by month in the first five months of this year, achieving a total import and export value of 110.72 billion yuan and accounting for 46.7% of the provincial total, Xingsha Customs Authority said on June 20, 2024. In May, Changsha witnessed 23.75 billion yuan of import and export value, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.
Changsha's imports hit another record high between January and May this year, reaching 42.46 billion yuan. Imports of electromechanical and high-tech products grew steadily, and bulk commodities, key components, and consumer goods were in strong demand. Among them, the imports of electromechanical products amounted to 18.99 billion yuan, up 34.5% year on year. The import value of consumer goods grew by 13.1% year on year to 6.3 billion yuan. The value of imported meat, edible oils, dried and fresh fruits, and nuts increased by 315.5%, 104.5%, and 11.3% respectively.
Changsha exported 45.4 billion yuan of electromechanical products, accounting for 66.5% of the total export value in the same period. Among them, the export value of automobiles (including chassis) was 7.64 billion yuan, growing by 59.4% yearly. The exported flat-panel display modules grew by 64.3% year on year to 4.25 billion yuan. Among the "new three"—new energy vehicles (NEVs), lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products, there was 2.79 billion yuan for exporting electric vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 231.4%. The main export markets were Brazil, Mexico, and Uzbekistan.
