The Shazitang Primary School in Yuhua District, Changsha, and the Meiwa Elementary School in Kagoshima City, Japan recently launched an inter-school exchange event which came to the end on June 17.
Changsha and Kagoshima knotted friendship city ties in 1982. Over the past 40-odd years, the two cities have established a strong friendship. In October 1983, Shazitang Primary School was designated as Changsha's first primary school for foreign affairs, and launched friendly exchanges with Meiwa Elementary School. The then President of Shazitang Primary School, Li Yingjie, joined the Changsha government delegation on a visit to Kagoshima. Between 1983 and 1989, the educational circles of Kagoshima made more than 20 visits to Shazitang Primary School. In September 2023, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Shazitang Primary School, the two schools reunited, and Meiwa Elementary School sent congratulations via a video.
On the exchange event on June 17, the Shazitang Primary School students staged art performances at Meiwa Elementary School, showing the talents and abilities of Chinese students. The students of Meiwa Elementary School also displayed their achievements and talents.
On the morning of June 18, the Shazitang Primary School delegation visited the Kagoshima government and was warmly received by the government staff. The Kagoshima Mayor welcomed the delegation, and expressed his expectation for deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two cities. Shazitang Primary School President Liu Junhui delivered a speech, expressing gratitude for the hospitality of Kagoshima and introducing Shazitang Primary School's basic conditions and development.
