The 2024 list of China's most beautiful counties was announced at the 20th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF). A total of 107 counties (county-level cities and districts) were on the list, including four in Hunan Province. The four places were Shaoshan City, Nanyue District, Guidong County, and Suxian District.

According to Fang Yongzhuo, chief researcher of the evaluation team for China's most beautiful counties, the rankings were determined by considering the ecological environment, cultural significance, and industrial development as evaluation criteria. The event aims to discover, promote, and appreciate the beauty found in different places, while also serving as a platform to offer consumers more options for tourist destinations. In this way, the event contributes to the development of all-for-one tourism and regional economic growth.

Among the four nominated places, two of them are highlights of Hunan's five tourism calling cards, namely, the red or revolutionary tradition represented by Shaoshan in Xiangtan City and the history and culture represented by Hengshan Mountain in Nanyue District, Hengyang City.
