The Changsha Customs data showed that, Hunan has exported aquatic products worth 19.342 million yuan in the first quarter this year. Yiyang's export value of aquatic products reached 12.207 million yuan, marking a 391% surge year on year. Yiyang has become a major driver for Hunan's aquatic product export.

Yiyang is situated in the southern area of the Dongting Lake. The crayfish produced in Yiyang's Nanxian County have been listed as national geological indication (GI) products. A number of precooked food processing businesses have been settled here, creating an exceptional advantage for boosting precooked crayfish industry.

"Our company mainly exports precooked crayfish. We can process 120,000 tonnes of aquatic products and export them to more than 40 countries and regions around the world," said a manager of a Yiyang-based food company.

Since the beginning of this year, the Yiyang Customs Authority has made great efforts to facilitate the promotion of local specialty products, based on the characteristics of Yiyang's foreign trade. It provides one-to-one service to the aquatic products exporters, notifies them of updated international policies and rules on food security, urges them to carry out product quality supervision, and assists them in improving quality management mechanism. These efforts are helpful to ensure quality and security of the exported precooked crayfish.
