An exhibition on cheongsam and its making technique opened to the public free of charge at the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall on the morning of April 27. The event will last till June 30.

The exhibition began with a cheongsam show where visitors captured the beauty of the traditional Chinese women's dress with phone cameras.

The event features three parts, displaying the origin of cheongsam, a combination of Qin- and Han-era gown and Manchurian costume during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), and cheongsam's evolution into an iconic women's dress in modern times. More than 50 objects are on display, including traditional cheongsams of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China (1912-1949), modern cheongsams, knot buttons, and embroidery pieces. In addition, on-site explanations and technique showcase enable visitors to experience the artistic charm of cheongsam.

The layout of the exhibition area reproduces the bustling street scenarios of Changsha in modern times, including Jiechang Silk Store, Wu Damao Needlework Stone, Calendars, and cheongsam materials and production tools. The scenarios will be photo spots for tourists.

Classes on experiencing cheongsam culture are offered during the event, enabling tourists to learn how to make a cross crotch and a handmade knot button from intangible cultural heritage inheritors.

In order to welcome the upcoming May Day holiday, the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall elaborately planned the exhibition, and worked with intangible cultural heritage inheritors to create exquisite Hunan embroidered cheongsam and dyed valerian cheongsam, attracting more young people to fall in love with traditional costumes.
