Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Site to Reopen, Hunan Museum to Extend Opening Hours During May Day Holiday

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the archaeological excavation of Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs. The second phase of the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Protection Project, which started on August 21, 2023, has been completed recently, according to a notice from the Hunan Museum. Hence, the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Site will reopen to the public starting from May 1. The specific opening hours are 9:00-17:00 (last entry at 16:30) from Tuesday to Sunday. The site is closed on Monday except statutory holidays.

Meanwhile, in order to satisfy the public demand for visits, the opening hours of Hunan Museum will be extended to 20:00 from May 1 to 5 (last entry at 19:00). There will be an extra 5,000 reservation quotas available during the extended hours (individual visitors only), with the admission time between 17:00 and 19:00.

It should be noted that Hunan Museum and Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs Site only accept online real-name reservations for individuals. All visitors (including those who enjoy preferential policies) should make a real-name reservation up to 7 days in advance (excluding the day of visit) via the official website, WeChat account, and Alipay mini-program of Hunan Museum. After making an appointment, visitors can enter the museum with the reservation record and valid identification documents.
