The Hunan Provincial People's Government officially approved a national territorial spatial plan for Hengyang City for the 2021-2035 period, according to the Hunan Department of Natural Resources on January 9. Thus, Hengyang became Hunan's first city being approved for its national territorial spatial plan.

The plan is a general guideline for the protection, development, utilization, and restoration of the national territorial space in Hengyang City. It firmly focuses on the key national plans on the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the rise of central China. It provides planning support and spatial guarantee for accelerating the courses of building Hengyang into a regional center of Hunan Province, and comprehensively constructing it as a national-level regional key city, a provincial sub-center city, and a representative city of Huxiang culture and landscape tourism. The plan breaks through the constraints of administrative divisions and adopts an integrated approach in its formulation, guided by the principle of 'unrestricted layout without divisions.' It maps out a strategic, forward-looking, scientific, and operatable blueprint for Hengyang City in its future decade development.
