Zhangjiajie greeted its first snowfall of this winter on December 16, attracting many tourists. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has been turned into a frozen wonderland, with snow-covered peaks and trees in the mist. 2023 marked a year of a full recovery of tourism in Zhangjiajie. The city has prioritized the recovery of inbound tourism and taken a slew of measures to achieve the goal. Zhangjiajie issued the 2023 Implementation Plan for Tourism Marketing Incentives, highlighting incentives in inbound tourism reception, international conferences, and international and regional routes and flights. Efforts have been taken to strengthen tourism promotion, increase cooperation with mainstream media outlets and new media platforms, raise the profile of Zhangjiajie through multiple channels and platforms, and continue to enhance the influence of Zhangjiajie's tourism brands. Hua Chunying, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented the beautiful scenery of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to netizens around the world on her personal account of an overseas social media platform. Internet celebrities from China and foreign countries including the Philippines, South Korea, and India promoted Zhangjiajie to more tourists.
Zhangjiajie has accelerated the recovery of transport capacity of international and regional routes to support the inbound tourism market. Ten international and regional routes from Vietnam's Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh cities, Thailand's Bangkok, and South Korea's Pusan to the city have been resumed. Zhangjiajie organized nine inbound tourism promotion activities in Hong Kong, Macao and foreign countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. A total of 2,020 foreign travel agents in 49 batches were invited to explore Zhangjiajie. Thanks to these efforts, the recovery of Zhangjiajie's inbound tourism market has been better than the national average.
In addition, Zhangjiajie hosted a series of creative activities featuring "tourism + sports", "tourism + culture", and "tourism + music" to increase its attraction. The city's cultural tourism resources have been promoted to many foreign tourists through tourism events with international influence including a world heritage photo exhibition, an international tourism poetry festival, and Tianmen Mountain wingsuit flying competition.
According to data released by the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, in the first three quarters, Zhangjiajie City received a total of 364,100 inbound tourist trips, twice that of Sanya and three times that of Guilin, a year-on-year increase of more than 93 times, and the inbound tourism revenue was 87.9624 million USD, a year-on-year increase of more than 67 times. The number and growth rate of inbound tourist trips, and the inbound tourism revenue ranked first in Hunan.
