The new station building of the Shaoyang High-speed Railway Station was put into operation on November 21, 2023, after an over-three-year reconstruction.
The construction of the new station building was launched in June 2020, with a total investment of 800 million yuan. The total construction area is about 43,000 square meters, out of which 37,000 square meters are newly constructed.
The new station building showcases elements of Shaoyang's history, culture, and spectacular landscapes. The design of its external walls was inspired by the ancient Baoqing City Wall in the Song Dynasty. The pillars in the waiting hall are decorated with Chinese ink paintings of Langshan Mountain. In the newly-built side-type station building, passengers enter the station via the ticket-check channels located in the upper waiting hall, and exit via an underpass. The waiting hall, which covered 2,891 square meters previously, has been expanded to 15,794 square meters, with 3,500 seats and 55 elevators and escalators equipped. There were three platforms positioned among five tracks in the past, which have been expanded to eight platforms among 13 tracks at present. The station accommodates various types of trains, including bullet trains, traditional trains, and freight trains.
Shaoyang is a key node city and regional transportation hub on the Hohhot-Nanning High-speed Railway, a major part of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network. The Shaoyang High-speed Railway Station is situated in the downtown area. With the upgraded service functions after the reconstruction, the station will be increasingly significant to the improvement of the modern transportation system in the central and southwestern areas of Hunan Province.
Upon operation, the station will handle 63 trains daily, including 56 bullet trains and 7 traditional ones. The daily number of passengers via the station is estimated to grow from the previous 10,534 to 12,000, and the annual number of passenger trips will rise from 3.86 million to 4.38 million.
